Another great bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee today.

The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee voted 16-14 in favor of an amendment to the Financial Services (FS) spending bill, sponsored by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), that would bar federal funds from being used to prohibit or penalize financial institutions that provide financial services to cannabis businesses in states where marijuana is legal for recreational or medicinal purposes.

Since the US DOJ issued guidelines for tribes under the Cole Memo guidelines, tribes across the I.S., including here in Wisconsin are polling members and looking at cannabis as a new industry.

Wisconsin's Menominee Nation held an educational forum at its convention center in Keshena on the legalization of cannabis on July 14-15 and has also scheduled an advisory referendum on legalization for August 19-20, 2015.

Cannabadger.com: Drafting error pushed back effective date of Dane County $1 pot fine almost 2 months

The Dane County Board passed an ordinance reducing the county fine for possession of 25 grams or less to $1 plus costs. But a drafting error delayed the effective date.

On April 16, the Dane County Board passed an ordinance reducing county pot fines to $1 plus costs. The ordinance was signed by County Executive Joe Parisi and was due to take effect on April 28. However, a drafting error in the original legislation forced the board to do a re-do.

My last post looked at the numbers of out of state patients registered with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP), which, through litigation in 2010, is open to patients nationwide. Wisconsin patients represent a growing part of the OMMP ranking in the higher end of program statistics.
