Bipartisan hemp legislation introduced in Wisconsin

Wisconsin is seeing a record number of cannabis-related bills this session, some forward looking, some backward. Just introduced is a bipartisan hemp bill, definitely a forward-looking move.

Rep. Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) has announced through a press release she is introducing a bill that would "legalize possession of marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes in Wisconsin." Rep. Sargent recently made state news for supporting cannabis legalization on the Devil's Advocate radio show.

Madison NORML Examiner: New York to activate 34 year old medical MJ law: WI has similar law on books

There are cannabis stories appearing out of everywhere these days. I wrote this about the latest developments in New York State where the governor, Andrew Cuomo, plans to take executive action to use a 1980 law to provide medical cannabis in limited circumstances. Wisconsin passed a similar law in 1982 and like New York, it remains on the books.

New York to activate 34 year old medical MJ law: WI has similar law on books

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning to activate an existing 1980 medical-marijuana law to allow some New York hospitals to dispense medical cannabis for patients with cancer, glaucoma and other illnesses, the New York Times is reporting.

The Times said Cuomo, who had previously opposed legalizing medical cannabis, is expected to make the announcement in his Jan. 8 State of the State address. The governor intends to use his executive authority, bypassing a divided legislature.
