Pro-pot punishment legislation AB164/SB150 has now passed out of both Assembly and Senate committees.

Senate committee votes 4-1 on bill to boost pot punishment options

The office of Wisconsin State Sen. Rick Gudex (R- Fond du Lac) has confirmed that Senate Bill 150 has been voted out of the Committee on Economic Development and Local Government which he chairs. Sen. Gudex is the lead Senate sponsor of SB150, which would expand options for penalizing the possession of marijuana.

Wisconsin lawmakers consider bill to boost local prosecution of marijuana possession cases

The Wisconsin Senate's Committee on Economic Development and Local Government heard feedback from interest groups and residents Wednesday morning over a bill (SB 150) that would strengthen local and county governments' grounds for prosecuting individuals who possess natural and non-prescribed synthetic marijuana.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Richard Gudex (R-Fond du Lac) and Sen. Joseph Leibham (R-Sheboygan) has a companion bill in the Assembly (AB 164), which made its way through the Committee on Urban and Local Affairs last week.

Medical marijuana debate heats up

Gary Storck considers medical marijuana a lifesaver. The Dane County man has been smoking it for medical problems since Oct. 3, 1972, when he was 17 years old.

“I smoked some cannabis before seeing my eye doctor. He checked my pressures and they were normal that day,” he said.

A hearing has been set in the State Senate Committee on Economic Development and Local Government for Senate Bill 150 on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will be held in Room 330 Southwest of the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison.

GOP lawmakers don't want pot scofflaws to go unpunished

If you’re caught with pot and the district attorney doesn’t think prosecuting you is worth the time and effort, some GOP lawmakers don't want you to think you're off the hook.

State Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt and Sen. Rick Gudex, both Fond du Lac Republicans, have introduced legislation that would empower local and county governments to pursue marijuana possession cases that have been dropped by prosecutors.

Here is an update on the pending resolution in Dane County.

Dane County Board to vote Thursday to urge Congress to legalize pot

Dane County Dist. 4 Sup. Kyle Richmond's resolution, Res. 25, which we wrote about earlier this month, has been revised and will be taken up in the board's Executive Committee on Thursday, June 6. If the resolution passes committee, which is expected, Richmond plans to place it before the full board meeting immediately following at 7 p.m.
