Medical Marijuana Advisory Referendum Campaign Committee

RELEASE: County Landslide for MMJ Referendum a mandate for change

MADISON: On Tuesday Nov. 2, tens of thousands of Wisconsin voters in Dane County and the City of River Falls confirmed what had long been suspected: Passage of a state medical cannabis laws is something that the overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites want the legislature to do.

In Dane County, nearly 160,000 voters said Yes to the Medical Marijuana Advisory Referendum, which passed with 75.49% of the vote. In River Falls, the margin was 68%. These historic votes represent the first times Wisconsin voters have been asked at the polls where they stand on medical marijuana. The referendum campaign raised and spent virtually nothing to achieve these results. In a night that brought Republican victories at all levels, voters demonstrated that medical cannabis not a partisan issue. Green outpolled both Red and Blue.

We congratulate the winners and call on Governor-elect Walker and leaders of the incoming state legislature to make medical cannabis not just a priority but a reality for Wisconsin patients and families in 2011.
